“A genuinely good heart is a heart that is open and alight with understanding. It listens to the sorrows of the world. Our society is wrong to think that happiness depends on fulfilling one's own wants and desires. That is why our society is so miserable...” (Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo, Into the Heart of Life, Snow Lion: 2011, Chapter 9 ‘Practicing the good heart’)
There is an old saying that when things finally get bad enough, God sends a person to call the world back. John XIII was just such a person—as was Francis of Assisi, Edward Pusey, John Chrysostom, and the present Pope Francis. JOhn XXIII changed the church and the world, and although most of those in power worked hard to undo what he did, they have failed, and the arc of history still bends towards justice..and peace...and love.
